Creek / Epos

Not surprisingly, coming from the same company, Epos loudspeakers and Creek electronics just work rather well together.

Epos now have a range of speakers that include units for home theatre and two channel audio.

The M series is the quality end of the range, featuring better drivers, crossovers, cabinets and real wood veneer finishes.

This is best represented by the M12 and the M22 (both shown right, without grilles).

The M12, now in version M12.2, is the result of many years of continuous development. The underlying philosophy is unchanged from the 80’s, including the use of minimalist crossovers, quality cabinets and custom driver units.

Times have moved on from the early days and the M12.2 and its bigger brother, the M22 feature shielded drivers, quality DNM wiring and 25mm MDF cabinets.

The M12.2 continues to garner critical acclaim, not just in the UK based magazines, but all over the world.

The M22 is the flagship of the Epos range. Essentially the M12.2, but with considerable enhancements. A separate, dedicated, bass driver is added to supplement the mid/bass driver in the M12. This is housed in it’s own cabinet, which makes the M22 a floorstander.

The height and base dimensions of the two are identical.

The sound of the two, as expected, share the same attributes, but the M22, with the extra driver simply go lower, have more grunt and have a bigger stagesound.

Some specifications:

Model Type Frequency Response Impedance (Ohm) Sensitivity (dB/1W/1m) Size W*H*D (mm) Mass (kg)
M5 Standmount 60Hz-20kHz 4 88 174*326*210 5.6
M8 Centre 60Hz-20kHz 8 87 510*174*210 8.8
M12.2 Standmount 58Hz-20kHz 8 87 200*375*250 8
M15.2 Floorstander 48Hz-20kHz 8 87 200*875*250 16
M22 Floorstander 38Hz-20kHz 6 87 200*875*250 17

Epos loudspeakers benefit and will revel in quality amplification. In the real world they will handle up to 200w/channel amplification with ease.

Although specifications suggest that a minimum of 50w/channel is adequate, they really need 100w/channel to sing at their optimal.

Creek, over the past few years have been driving their range up-market. Always known for their great sound and also value (bang for buck), now you get more bang, better looks and the value is better than ever.

The Creek stack shown includes the latest Creek 5350SE Classic integrated amplifier, the CD53 CD player and the T50 tuner.

The Classic 5350SE amplifier at 90wpc, both channels driven into 8 ohms and almost double into 4 Ohms will drive almost any speaker and matches especially well with the Epos M12.2 or M22.
